The Power of Asking: What If the Answer Is Yes?

We were at a neighborhood pizza party—one of those casual, warm evenings filled with laughter, paper plates, and kids running barefoot through the grass. It was already shaping up to be a great night. But then something incredible happened—something straight out of a movie.

A helicopter landed.

Yes, you read that right. A real, roaring, full-sized helicopter touched down right there in our neighborhood. It was one of those surreal, once-in-a-lifetime moments where everyone stopped mid-bite and just stared in awe. It felt wild and rare and so wonderfully out of the ordinary. The kind of thing you don’t forget.

My 7-year-old daughter, Quinny, was captivated. Eyes wide, she looked at me and said, “I want to go for a ride.”

Now, the practical side of me kicked in. I explained that helicopters aren’t like hopping into the car for a Target run—it’s not something you just do. But I also felt a little tug in my heart. A reminder. An invitation.

So I said, “You can ask.”

She did. And the response? Not tonight… but let’s plan a time for everyone to go. The pilot explained that the helicopter only fits three people—himself and two passengers—so we could take turns another day.

And we did.

We all got to ride in that helicopter. Quinny and Cody went on the first flight. Cooper and I took the second. And y’all—it was magical. Watching the world below us shrink as we lifted off the ground felt like pure freedom. Wonder. Joy. The kind of joy that makes your heart ache in the best way.

But here’s the deeper part of the story. The part I keep thinking about.

None of it would’ve happened if Quinny hadn’t asked.

And we are so incredibly grateful for this experience. It was more than just a helicopter ride—it was a memory we’ll carry forever. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to Pilot Jay and DeeDee for your kindness, generosity, and willingness to say “yes” to something that made such a lasting impact. You gifted us not just a ride—but a story, a lesson, and a moment we’ll never forget.

So often we hold back from asking. We’re afraid of being told no. Afraid of looking silly. Afraid of making someone uncomfortable. But what if the answer is yes? Or even not yet, but let’s figure it out?

What if your dream life, the one you’ve tucked away in the corners of your heart, is just one bold question away?

I’m learning that asking isn’t about entitlement—it’s about courage. It’s about honoring the desires planted deep within us and trusting that we’re worthy of more than we think. It’s about showing our kids, our communities, and ourselves that life isn’t just something we watch happen—it’s something we co-create.

So ask the question. Make the request. Open the door.

Because sometimes, the only thing standing between you and something magical… is the simple power of asking.

Have you ever experienced a moment that came from a bold ask? I’d love to hear your story. Drop a comment below, send me a message, or just say hi. We’re all figuring it out together—and it’s better when we share the journey. ❤️
